Current preaching series- The Book of Genesis

Genesis sets the stage for the rest of the Bible. Truth is, we will find it difficult to understand the Bible’s overarching message without clarity on the first message in the book of Genesis. Because Genesis is 50 chapters you can expect "mini-series" of sermons.

For example, the first 4 sermons include an overview of the book answering three basic questions:

  • Why is Genesis relevant for us today?

  • To whom was it written and for what purpose?

  • What are some action steps of engagement in this series?

Also include are three sermons on the creation account featuring three important theme/terms:"form, fill, rest." God forms the earth on days 1-3. God fills the earth on days 4-6. God rests on Day 7. Form. Fill. Rest. These are especially highlighted in the creation of man. He forms him (from dust). Then he fills him (with his breath). The featured difference is that God himself intimately does both the forming and filling of man. This sets man apart from the rest of creation. Then God rested. Likewise, man is to rest from all his (good) work as an expression of bearing the image of God.

  • February 2 "Genesis" The Beginning

  • February 9 Genesis 1:1-10  Creation–Days 1-3 "Form"

  • February 16 Genesis 1:11-31 Creation–Days 4-6  "Fill"
February 23 Genesis 2:1-3 Creation– Day 7 "Rest"
