journey’s most defining moment was when Peter heard God speak directly to him on a high
school mission trip. Ask him about it sometime.
After graduating from high school in Delano, MN in ’87, Peter began an eleven-year sojourn
of post-secondary education, beginning in the music field, taking a sharp turn when God
called him to be a pastor, and ending at seminary. He attended Lutheran Bible Institute in
Seattle, Music Tech in Minneapolis, Concordia College in St. Paul, and Luther Seminary in
St. Paul, graduating in ’98 with a Masters of Divinity.
Peter first pastored two small congregations simultaneously in the Upper Peninsula of MI.
He learned a lot in his time there, including that the Lutheran denomination was not the
place for him. He spent three and a half years as an intern pastor at a large Full-Gospel
congregation in Grand Rapids, MI, learning a lot. The Johnsons then moved to Duluth, MN
so Peter could pastor Resurrection Fellowship for nearly four years--and learn a lot. On
June 15, 2009, Peter joined Anchor Point as the interim associate pastor.
When Peter is not doing ministry he likes to hang out with Julie, Kara, and Riley; watch
movies; lift weights; hike; play video games; golf; do house projects; and yell at the TV
during Vikings games.
Peter and his golden retriever, Riley (a.k.a. Fumbly Jums,
Jumbly, Jibbly-Jibs…) are much alike—they are always
looking for a way to have fun.
Peter’s number one passion is Jesus. In second place is his
wife, Julie (married since 1995), a beautiful and wonderful
woman who is quirky enough to be a good fit for him. She
claims to have married him because of his awesome
mother, and that is okay with him. (Whatever works!)
Peter's family recently expanded with their first child, Kara.
She quickly became passion number three. (Sorry, Riley!)
When he was three, Peter asked Jesus to be his Lord and
Savior and has followed Jesus ever since. He grew up in a
charismatic Lutheran church and regularly attended
Lutheran Renewal’s annual Holy Spirit conference. His faith
